We stopped in for drinks and dinner while traveling on a Wednesday in mid-June. This is quite a big place with multiple bars inside and out. We sat at the brewpub bar - everything else was closed while we were here. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was laid back. The brewpub has a cozy cabin-like feel to it. The food was good - we got wings and pasta. Parking was easy enough. They had a big stage so I imagine that they get pretty packed when they do events. We saw groundhogs and bunnies on the way back to the car and a supercool view of the moon over the mountain on our way out.

My wife and I have been to DB a handful of times since 2018 and the best piece of advice I can give you is to check their schedule before going. The very first time we went were expecting a low key dinner with drinks and instead showed up to a festival with a couple hundred people. Good times lol

Overall the vibe varies depending on the crowd. You get all walks of life: bikers to families with babies in strollers. It’s a roll of the dice so keep that in mind.

Food has been solid in my experience, no complaints here. The chicken in the nachos had a deep smokey flavor, which was a nice touch

We frequent this brewery each time we’re in town for an event at the Wintergreen Resort. The outdoor area is nice for group gatherings with plenty of picnic tables for seating. They even have some games for entertainment. They have snacks available at the outdoor bars. This time around we ordered a giant charcuterie pretzel. Service is always quick and easy. We haven’t been able to dine at the restaurant yet. It’s usually very busy when we visit.

Eating here it is clear... This place respects their customer. Everything was cooked in a kitchen or smoker, not a microwave.

Shocker, right?

In addition, we found every single dish and side to be delicious. The beef dipper sandwich was fantastic. The macaroni and cheese side was great. The baby back ribs were amazing. The rhinelager was amazing. Everything was obviously prepared with love and respect. The restaurant was clean, and the kitchen was efficient.

How about the ice in the urinal, pure class, for a brewery... These guys don't screw around... You won't find a better, similar establishment, in at least a 300-mile radius, guaranteed.

June 13, 2024 - I bet this place is “hoppy” on the weekends with crowds quenching their thirst at DB Basecamp! ?

After hiking Crabtree Falls, my wife & I stopped in on a weekday for lunch. No crowds, so service was excellent! This isn’t considered a “ Craft Brewery” . . . Since Annheuser-Busch purchased Devils Backbone Brewing Co. in 2016 . But give credit to the original owners Steven & Heidi Crandall for the vision & quality of DB craft beers back in 2008.

Over the years this craft brewery did win lots of awards for their German style lagers, and Danzig Porters , plus small & mid-size craft brewers awards at Great American Beer Festivals & World Beer Cup! Over 28 awards over the years!!

Historical note . . . Peter Jefferson a surveyor of the Blue Ridge over 300 years ago mentioned this narrow pass, Devils Backbone ( son of Thomas Jefferson) and the name stuck!

Now there are several DB locations, and producing thousands of barrels of beer and distilled liquors! The hottest trend is Smash cans with mixed cocktails ! I ordered a couple of those with my wings for lunch! A smooth mix of vodka & orange crush beer, chilling & refreshing on a hot summer day!

Basecamp at DB offers plenty of space , tables, shade cover , and stage for music for those seeking adult beverages! The pub food’s quality is good, and compliments the beer selection. My wife enjoyed her French dip sandwich with dipping sauce! My wings were crunchy and included 2 styles pub rub, and a bbq dipping sauce, very good!

We’ll have to return on a weekend night, maybe a band playing as we sample more of the Devil Backbones extensive beer list! ?

It is a large operation. Less of a brewery than a large pub/attraction. Live music, crafts vendors, inflatable slide, and restaurant onsite, and oh yeah a campground too. A bit too commercial for me and too much distractions if you ask me. I guess in the vicinity of wintergreen resort, it tailors to a certain ground on most days?

Beers are good and good is also good. Pricy for a brewery, especially considering all orderings are online via app, and the stupid system tags on a 20% default tip then asks for additional 18/20/25% gratituity--make sure you check your bill!

Had a really good experience last Friday after not visiting DB for a couple of years due to bad experiences. The Friday (4) Rib Special was great and just the right amount that we shared. Also had the smoked cream corn which was delicious. The 8 Point IPA is excellent as always and my wife enjoyed the pear lager. The only question/issue I had after looking over my check later is what is the $.30 Delivery Fee? Maybe next time I should ask to tell me when order is ready and I will eat in the kitchen to save this silly charge!

I came on Sunday and it was packed lol. But the employees are great and suggested a seat at the bar. The guys working the bar were very attentive and the beer was good. Afterwards, I got the cigar/whiskey lounge and had a damn good old fashioned. Overall, I had a great time and will definitely be back!

I had the Maibock and Brusecco. I liked the Brusecco a bit better, probably cuz it's warm outside. And I 100% recommend the old fashioned with a cigar.
