We come here often. This is such a great place to stay and visit. The hikes around really alow you to enjoy all the geology and what a desert has to offer

Cool place to camp. Running potable water wasn’t working when we were here. As another reviewer mentioned this place is beautiful but windy as all hell. We tried to choose a campsite that was out of the wind but soon realized that was futile. Then again, there was a wind warning in effect, which from what I gather is rather common around these parts. We bought firewood thinking we could make a fire but that was totally out of the question with the amount of wind. Just somthing to keep in mind

Great primitive campground with sites varying in size from tents-only to big rig. Water available. Pit toilets. Desert views. Hikes and gravel road cycling available nearby. Can hike onto the surrounding Preserve at will. Needed some attention to the toilet paper supply but everything clean.

Extremely windy, very powerful wind gusts. This is a Do-Nothing campground: do not eat, do not read, do not pitch a tent, do not put out a chair or picnic blanket, do not wear a hat. The wind will dash all your camping dreams.
Our picnic dinner and drinks were immediately filled with sand (but we still ate it, just not biting down fully on anything). Everything we put out blew away and we had to chase it (you can try to stake everything down with the various campsite rocks, but probably shouldn’t move rocks). You can try to brush your teeth, but the wind will blow your spittle RIGHT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH.
The best way to enjoy this campground is to sit and do nothing but observe how beautiful this place is. The view is lovely and the rock formations are incredible. The constant 20-40 mph wind gusts are enjoyable when you simply sit and experience them.
Very hot (was 70 degrees by 6:00 AM on a cloudy, sunless morning in late May). Shade by the rocks, other campsites fully exposed. Water spouts, vault toilets, fire pits, picnic tables. Hiking in this wind is probably great, but we were only there for the evening / overnight. Coyotes calling in the far distance after sunrise.

Several short hikes with a 360 view of the canyon. Campground had a variety of sites some close together and other more secluded all sites had a picnic table and fire pit. Restrooms were chemical toilets only and a faucet outside to wash hands and drinking fountain as well.

Beautiful place and with all that erosion makes for a great photography. It's 25 a nite but 19 for 65 and older. First come first served some of the best sites are next to the canyon wall. I asked why everyone is crowded in one spot? And was told due to the high wind warning. So the Ricardo campground is a great shelter for the terrible weather that occurs in the Eastern Sierra. They also have water there so it's the only water around on hwy 14 in that area.

Rock formations felt other worldly. Felt like columns of Rome or Egypt. Clean restrooms. No dogs on trails. Loved this magical place.
